Sringeri Sharada Peetham hosts seminar on Space Technology and Agriculture

With the Blessings of the Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji, a two-day seminar on Space Technology and Agriculture was ogranised by the Peetham and held at Sringeri on 3rd and 4th October 2009. The seminar was inaugurated by ISRO Chairman, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Madhavan Nair on the 3rd at the Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Sabha Bhavanam. Sri V. R. Gowrishankar, Administrator and CEO of the Peetham stressed the need to hold such a seminar in the wake of the recent floods in South India. On 4th, the seminar sessions were held at the Pravachana Mandiram. Farmers including those belonging to the Chikmagalur District Arecanut Farmers association interacted with the ISRO Scientists.  Discussions on how ISRO Technology that has proved the presence of water on the moon can help predict the monsoon and issue flood warnings in advance took place. Dr. Suresh, Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram and Dr. Y. S. Hegde, Senior Scientist ISRO presided over the discussions.
