Peetham conducts Veda Sammelans


 

Vedic Sammelans were held across the country in January under the auspices of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri with the Blessings of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji. The Administrator of the Peetham, Sri V R Gowrishankar and Chairam of Sringeri Vidya Bharati Foundation, Stroudsburg, USA, Dr. Yegnasubramanian were present to convey the Blessings of the Shankaracharya and to oversee the Proceedings of the 5 Vedic Sammelans that took place in mid-January.

The 5th edition of the Vedic Sammelan in Andhra Pradesh was held at the Sringeri Shankara Math in Guntur on 9th and 10th January. With the efforts of the Dharmadhikari, Sri Hari Prasad Rao, a huge number of (about 670) Vedic scholars attended the Sammelan. Hundreds of Ghanapathis were honoured.

The  11th annual Vedic Sammelan in the holy town of Varanasi took place for two days. The Sammelan elicited great participation from Vidyarthis and Vedic scholars, who numbered 500 and 160 respectively. Recitation of all the extant 11 Veda Shakhas reverberated from the Sringeri Shankara Math premises in Varanasi. 3 elderly scholars were specially honoured. 50 young participants, hailing from various states including Jammu and Kashmir, took part in the Bhagavad Gita Jnana Yagna scheme of the Peetham and were honoured with cash awards. 12 of them received Rs. 21,000/- for having memorised and having recited the entire Bhagavad Gita. Prof. V Kutumba Shastry, Vice-Chancellor, Sampooranand Samskrita Vishwa Vidyalaya and Sri Ramnaresh Yadava, ex-Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh attended the Sammelan and addressed the gathering.

The annual Vedic Sammelan organised by the Peetham in Maharashtra, now in its 11th year, took place in Purbhani. About 200 Vedic scholars from various Vedic Shakhas participated. Five elderly scholars were specially honoured with Rs. 25,000/- during the Sammelan.

More than a hundred Vedic scholars hailing from Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam participated in the 5th annual Veda Sammelan held in Kolkata.

The 10th annual Vedic Sammelan in the New Delhi region was held this year in Gurgaon. About 150 Vedic scholars participated in the event held on 16th January. The Peetham commissioned a new Pathashala named “Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham Veda Pathashala” in the premises of Sri Mata Sheetala Devi temple, Gurgaon. The Pathashala was formally inaugurated by Hon. Chief Minister of Haryana, Sri Bhupinder Singh Hodda.
