Kumbhabhisheka of Gayatri temple in Koppa

On 29th January 2012,  Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji performed the Kumbhabhisheka of Gayatri Devasthana at Koppa. In His Anugraha Bhashanam rendered on the occasion, the Jagadguru pointed out that it is the same Divine Mother who sports different forms be they Sharada, Gayatri, Annapoorna, Vishalakshi or Meenakshi. The Jagadguru recounted an incident from the Markandeya Purana where Shumbhaasura fights the Divine Mother who had expanded Herself into myriad forms Brahmi, Maheshwari, Vaishnavi. When Shumbhaasura confronted the Divine Mother, She absorbed all these manifestations and said –

एकैवाहं जगत्यत्र द्वितीया का ममापरा । पश्यैता दुष्ट मय्येव विशन्त्यो मद्विभूतयः ।। ५।। (There is no one in this Universe besides Me. Behold! All my manifestations have been absorbed in Me).

The Jagadguru mentioned the greatness of the Gayatri Mantra stating न गायत्र्याः परो मन्त्रः – There is no mantra that is superior than the Gayatri.

There is nothing impossible for a person who does a proper upasana of Gayatri. A Brahmachari who does the Gayatri Upasana properly will definitely get the fruits of his efforts in acquiring education.

  • O devotee, (with the mind) fixed upon the lotus feet of the Guru! May you soon be free from Samsara. Through the control of the senses and the mind, you shall behold the Lord indwelling in your heart! Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Mohamudgara

  • An ideal disciple will indeed act as per the Guru’s instructions and not give place to thoughts as “Is it possible for me to do as he says? Shall I try something else?” If we follow our Guru’s instructions, it does not mean that we are unintelligent. It only implies that we have surrendered for our own good to a power superior to us.
