Deepa Puja at Pune Sringeri Shankara Math

Most of the festivals and all six rutus (change of season) are based on the orbit of the moon (chandramana panchang), but the six month period of dakshinayana and uttarayana is calculated based on direction of sun’s rays according to the sun entering the kark raasi and makara raasi of sauramana panchanga. There will be variations of  events in ones life  in each of this six month period.

Uttarayana beginning on Makara sankaranthi from middle of January lasting till middle of July brings in auspices occasions on all lives. Therefore, in any one of the Fridays in the month of makara (middle of January to middle of February), Divine mother is worshipped through the deepam by suvasinis for saumangalya praapthi.

This year Deepa Puja was performed at Pune Sringeri Shankara Math on the 27th of January. Around 100 suvasinis participated in the event. After the puja, Mahaprasadam was offered to all who had gathered at the temple.

Some photographs taken during the event are as follows.
