Lakshamodaka Mahaganapati Homam
The Grand Celebrations of the Kumbhabhisheka of the Rajagopuram at Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham began with the Laksha Modaka Ganapati Homa. It is customary to propitiate Lord Vighneshwara at the commencement of any activity in order to seek His blessings for the successful un-interrupted completion of the task. Thus, it was quite a fitting start to the Celebrations as the Kumbhabhisheka of the newly constructed granite temple for Lord Torana Ganapati will be the first event on the Rajagopuram Kumbhabhisheka day (8th June 2014).
This unique Mahaganapati homa comprising of 1,00,000 oblations of modakas commenced at around 7:30 AM. The Administrator and CEO of the Math, Padmashri Awardee Gurusevadhurina Dr. V. R. Gowrishankar performed the Sankalpa ritual.
111 Vaidikas from various parts of the country seated around 10 Havana-kundas propitiated Lord Mahaganapati by oblations of 1000 Modakas each, through the recitation of the Mahaganapati Mula-mantra.
The Laksha-modaka-ganapati-homa concluded with the Purnahuti at around 12:30 PM in the divine presence by the Jagadguru Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji.
Inauguration of Cultural Programmes
In the evening, the Jagadguru lit the traditional lamp and inaugurated the cultural programme connected to the festival. Dr. V R Gowrishankar in his welcome speech, said that the first day of Rajagopuram Kumbhabhisheka Celebrations is the start of a significant chapter in the history of the Peetham. All the musicians headed by Vidwan Sri Kumaraswami were then blessed by the Jagadguru. In the Jagadguru’s presence, the musicians began their performance with the song, “Vatapi Ganapatim Bhajeham” composed by Sri Muthuswami Dikshita. The Jagadguru listened to the rendition of the entire song, even as the Kalpana swaras of the Hamsadhavani Raga filled the air around the Sharadamba and Vidyashankara temples, through the ensemble of the instruments that included. two Nadaswaram, Saxaphone and Violin accompanied by three Mridangams, three Tavils, Kanchira, Moharsing, etc..
