Samskritotsava 2017

The Sanskrit week celebrations organised every year by the Kendriya Samskrita Vidya Peetham, Rajiv Gandhi Campus (Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan) was inaugurated by the Ubhaya Jagadgurus on August 9, 2017.

The event started with Veda Ghosha. After Phala Samarpanam to the Ubhaya Jagadgurus, Prof. A.P. Sacchidananda Udupa, the Principal of the institution offered his respectful Pranams to the Jagadgurus. Sri Mahasannidhanam then blessed the institution with an exquisite marble idol of Goddess Sharadamba stating that the Vidyaadhidevata would always shower Her blessings on the institution.

Sri Mahasannidhanam then released books related to different departments of the educational institution – Brahmi (Vedanta), Mimamsa Sourabham (Poorva Mimamsa), Sarvanaamatva-Vicharaha (vyakaranam), Kandali Nyaya Manjari (Nyaya), Shadanga Jyotisham, Kavya Koutuka (Sahitya), Bharatiya Darshaneshu Shaikshika Tattvani (Shiksha Shastra), Vakyartha Bharati (a compilation of deliberations in the Shastras by various scholars) and Challenges and Solutions in Modern Subjects.

Sri Sannidhanam in His Anugraha Bhashanam stressed upon a proper study of the ancient language of Sanskrit, the language of the scriptures of Sanatana Dharma. Sri Sannidhanam also mentioned the importance of pronouncing words with clarity. Even if a single Akshara (alphabet) is mispronounced or misprinted, the entire meaning gets distorted. For instance, there is an Upanishadic verse, “आत्मज्ञम् ह्यर्चयेत् भूतिकामः” – “Serve a Knower of the Atman and obtain supreme good.” If however, one were to mispronounce the first word, “आत्मज्ञ” (Aatma-jna, the Knower of the Atman) as “आत्मज” (Aatma-ja), then the verse would end up meaning that the serving one’s own son will beget supreme good.

Sri Sannidhanam expressed joy at the regular conduct of the function to remember and reflect upon the uniqueness of the Sanskrit language, and blessed the gathering.

  • O devotee, (with the mind) fixed upon the lotus feet of the Guru! May you soon be free from Samsara. Through the control of the senses and the mind, you shall behold the Lord indwelling in your heart! Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada on Mohamudgara
  • Have firm faith in God, his words and his servants. Have staunch belief in your religion and in dharma. Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • An ideal disciple will indeed act as per the Guru’s instructions and not give place to thoughts as “Is it possible for me to do as he says? Shall I try something else?” If we follow our Guru’s instructions, it does not mean that we are unintelligent. It only implies that we have surrendered for our own good to a power superior to us. Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God
  • If we poke our nose into matters that do not concern us, it is we who lose our precious time. Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal on Significance of God's Names
